The team
Marc Spayne, Ian Sullivan, Rob Melling, Chris Baxtor, Jason Price, Lindsey Lorimer and trainee investigator Stephen Tunnell
Small Tunnel
Lindsey’s Group
The group gathered in the blackened out room to do a little bit of table tipping, after the excitement from the opening circle the mood suddenly began to become serious, Rob showed the public the Ear Enhanced Headphones just show how any sound could be picked up, and he also spoke about the equipment we where using, ie – Dictaphone, k2,etc.
Rob, Clarkson and Ste sat and watched Lindsey perform table tipping with the public. Certain clicks and knocks where heard but nothing unexplainable. One of our guests smelt a beck but was quickly ruled out as there was a drain near by. The table began to vibrate and slowly knock from side to side. The table seemed to respond better to Lindsey’s voice than anybody else in the group. After 15-20 minutes of trying we all began to feel a bit disappointed so Rob suggested going in to the coal tunnel. Once we all gathered and settled down Rob and Clarkson began to call out, footsteps could be heard from the Ear Enhancer and whistling and many bangs.
Rob and one of our guests saw what we thought was a large shadowy figure stood in the corner, the same figure that was in the opening circle, we all realised the atmosphere had changed and began to get darker, after some talk we all agreed to split into men and women groups. Lindsey took her group back to the darkened room with the girls for table tipping, while the men stayed to find out who was with them. They began to call out and ask who was with us Rob picked up on a man who was simply known as The Gaffer and he ran the air bellows to the main shaft and that he made a mistake which killed a lot of men, the surname of Wilson was mentioned and the name Jake and James but with out any names in full there is no way of confirming this.
After a lot of calling and asking the girls group came back and met us up in the coal tunnel, kids had been heard within the girls group and they even got the table moving. After a good 30-40 in the coal tunnel the group had high expectations of the whole night.
Chris’s Group
Unfortunately the excitement didn’t live up to Lindsey’s group with nobody wanting to take part in table tipping we decided to rely on good old calling out.
A lot of strange sounds were heard but again nothing the team couldn’t explain. Marc, Jason and one of our guests all thought they heard someone walking in the darkened room but nobody was out there.
The rest of the vigil was quiet apart from Marc falling over the Mine cart tracks and Chris’s disappointment not catching it on camera nothing else really happened.
Ambulance Room
Lindsey’s Group
After moving to the next location known as the ambulance room the team all keep quite in a bid to hear noises or the whistling somebody had heard earlier. Clarkson began to call out to the sprits but no reply could be heard, the team called out for Mr Wilson who was called out in the coal tunnel but again nothing. They all agreed to split into 2 groups again men and women. The men stayed in the ambulance room and the women in the little room to the back.
Rob’s group called out and nothing was heard, they formed a circle hoping to build up the energy that seemed flat in this room, they then tried to call out names that where on the wall from previous ambulance men and women but again no response.
The girls also called out and were not having better luck. After a short stint in this room the group grew restless and every one wanted a break.
As they began to leave a rattle of chains was heard as they girls entered the room. After a few screams from the girls it was released that it could have been Rob, Clarkson or Ste that could have knocked them so that was ruled it out however all the lads were sure they didn’t.
The girls had heard a knocking from the other side door which leads to the coal tunnel and the name of Albert was mentioned.
Chris’s Group
After 20 minutes of tedious calling out a mighty thump was heard from the back of the Ambulance a noise that Marc or Chris could not debunk.
A voice was then heard but was later explained as a local man walking his dog.
Unfortunately the bang never reoccurred and nothing paranormal was happening so the team decided to move on
Main Shaft
Lindsey’s Group
As the group entered the shaft and began to decent the cable extension for some reason fell to the ground everyone saw it but ruled it as being something paranormal. At the bottom of the shaft there was a small table with an Ouija board, Lindsey began the board with the Guests. Lindsey opened the board and began calling for the planchett to move. a few a few of our guests could see a shadowy figure half way down the shaft towards the shed area the team called out to it but it disappeared, the planchett moved very slow when we began to ask questions, a small group of Rob and Clarkson began to move up to the shed hoping to try and coax the shadowy figure, Lindsey stayed in the shaft and continued the Ouija session.
In the shed there was a photo of ex miners and certain names on the wall and there tags that they used when they went down the shaft, one of our guests began to ask for the man she saw and the k2 meter flickered as she spoke, after this response they all began to ask questions hoping for another response on the k2, after loads of questions they began to call out
“are you one in the picture” and began to point to each member until they got to one member and the k2 flickered with great excitement the team then began to call out the names on the wall to match the man in the photo.
The name that came to them was William Thothergill so after calling his name out a few times in the shed so they began to move back down the shaft to Lindsey as they began to walk a shadow was seen by Clarkson behind a guest, after meeting up with Lindsey the name William Thothergill was mentioned to her to try on the Ouija board, with very little response from before, they began to call out his name on the board, the planchett moved slowly and got the letters d+e but it looked like he didn’t want to play.
A change to people on the board was made hoping for a better energy, they called out but nothing happened, the planchett began to move more to firm mans voice than a women’s, Rob began to call out hoping for a better response on the board, after loads of questions still nothing
“How many spirits are here?”
The planchett moved very slowly but didn’t move to any numbers, after a while the planchett moved to certain questions, they asked if the spirit was angry and it move to yes
“are you a spirit of the light and it moved to yes”, one of our guests Julie felt that she had been poked in her face so the team asked to take the condition away from her. The planchett began to spell gibberish.
Ste felt a bit sick as the calling out continued the name Christopher came through on the board and the year 1825 when he died, however the mines weren’t around this time just farms.
What the team got was he was killed on the farm by his dad at the age of 12 and it looked like Ste, after this Ste got a stone thrown at him which hit his foot, Lindsey then decided to close the board as it was effecting members of the group.
Chris’s Group
A slightly less eventful vigil nobody wanted to take part in the Ouija board so the group began to call out Marc saw the same shadowy figure at the end of the shaft Lindsey’s team did but the remainder of the night very flat.
Summery
A great venue and a lot of interesting things happened but on the whole a very quiet night
